Part 1: University of Melbourne

9.30 am-10.15 am - Tour of the University of Melbourne Architecture Building and Planning Library in the Melbourne School of Design

Conducted by : Naomi Mullumby, Faculty, School Librarian, ABP

The Architecture Building and Planning Library is situated on the ground floor of the Melbourne School of Design. Its prime position and co-location with the Fab Lab and Dulux gallery reflects it unique position in supporting design research. Library staff collaborate with faculty to build collections, digitise unique holdings, exhibit student work, curate library displays of rare books and archival collections, conduct interdisciplinary research, capture research outputs, and shape the design pedagogy. The ABP library supports the scholarly interest and design culture of the faculty.

The University of Melbourne Library will provide a tour of the redeveloped student spaces on the Baillieu Ground Floor (North and South) designed by ntc architects, in addition to select learning and teaching spaces in the new Arts West Building, Faculty of Arts designed by ARM & Architectus.

11.50 am – 12 noon: Questions and departure

Travel to RMIT for lunch

12.30 pm -1.15 pm - Light lunch at RMIT University, Swanston Library


Part 2: RMIT University

1.15 pm -1.45pm - Introduction to RMIT University Library and New Academic Street Project (BUILDING 10, LEVEL 6, ROOM 063 (MEGAFLEX)

1.45 pm - 2.45pm - Tour of the new Swanston Library

Conducted by :Tanya Bramley, Manager, Swanston Library or nominees

The new Swanston Library precinct provides 40% more study space, an enhanced service model, enhanced technology and improved access. The new Library responds to the needs of the students reflecting the diverse range of activities that occur across the University: connecting, experimenting, making, researching, collaborating and thinking. Library staff from all CAVAL member libraries are welcome, particularly those with an interest in new library spaces.

Is there a charge for the event?

No, this event is free of charge - and is exclusively for staff of CAVAL's member university libraries.

Is the event catered?

Yes, morning tea will be provided in the first tour. Lunch is included for those attending full-day tour. Please advise of any dietary requirements when registering.

Is my registration transferrable?

If you are unable to attend, and wish to transfer your place to a colleague at your university, please contact events@caval.edu.au to advise us of the new details.
